Children should receive their first comprehensive eye examination before the age of four unless problems warrant an earlier examination. Persons aged 20 to 40 should have an eye examination every five years, 40 to 60 every two years and after 60 every year if there are no visual problems. The most important step in preventing visual loss is by routine examination of eyes by a qualified eye care professional.
